For many years, I've personally identified myself as a writer and aspire to one day consider myself an author. Regardless of the terminology, the bottom line is that I spend a great deal of time writing, thinking about writing, planning what yo write, etc.
But what am I up to when I'm not writing?
I have a full time job working at a hospital in South Eastern Wisconsin. I work as a pharmacy technician, specifically working full time in the OR. While healthcare isn't my passion, it is something I have found that I do enjoy. I've been working in a hospital setting for seven years now and have been with this hospital for the past four years. It's always an adventure and I'm lucky enough to work with some fun people that keep life interesting.
The ridiculous creations my coworkers make to give me a laugh
In addition, I live a short drive away from Lake Michigan. When I find myself stressed, stuck with writer's block, or just needing some time outside with nature, I make my way down to the lake. Between the sound of the waves crashing up on the beach and the fresh air, I find myself completely relaxed. My mind clears, and often times I find myself writing like crazy all of a sudden. I've spent days overwhelmed with emotions. The moment I get to the lake, it's as though someone has turned the release valve and all of the pent up emotions come pouring out. I've cried down by the water, laughed, felt hopefully, felt heartache, felt free. It's one of my favorite places to spend time.
Through my life, I've picked up and learned different types of crafts and skills. Honestly, I find that I need to keep my hands busy. Even if I'm watching TV or a movie, I struggle to just sit still and enjoy what I'm watching. As a young girl, my grandma taught me (as well as many other relatives) how to fold paper stars. It was a skill she learned when she was a young girl and she passed it on through the generations. I have a drawer full of star paper to fold when I'm in the mood. I've also learned how to knit and crochet and love making little yarn things for my friends and family.
A variety of my completed project
However, my favorite thing to do when I'm not writing is to sit curled up with a book and a cup of coffee.
